Poppy Parker goes on a Mystery Date: part II: Ski and Beach Dates!
Continuing the presentation of the Poppy Parker® Loves Mystery Date series here are the rest of the two-doll gift sets based on the dates from the vintage board game: Skiing Date and Beach Date. Just like the previous two sets, you open the door and find out which date is waiting. Is it the date Poppy expects? Or "The Stud"? The special "mystery" figure is inserted at random throughout these sets. Whether you opt for the Ski or Beach date gift sets, you have a 1 in 16 chance that Poppy's date isn't the beau from the set, but instead "The Stud", a scrappy young man who is not what Poppy expects. Remember that there are only 500 of this guy produced, so this means that 125 are inserted at random in each group of 2000 sets per date and may replace Poppy's intended date without warning. Remember that the lotteries for these two sets will be open for W Club members after the ones for the first two sets end.

This is the second of my two favourite sets, the first being the Bowling one. I love both dolls and their outfits, plus the accessories are the best of the bunch: skis and batons and ski boots! Pity that Bellamy (always handsome, even though the flocked black hair is not his best look) does not have a pair of skis as well. His orange turtleneck should have been made like Poppy's at the neck. His striped sweater is printed (custom print made by Alain), as it would have been nearly impossible to make this knitted in doll scale for such a large batch. This Poppy reminds me of the IT Airways Poppy Parker, both the doll and the outfit that has a similar colour palette. If you want photos of The Stud, check Part I of the Mystery Date posts. This is the set with less value for money of all the sets of this collection. The outfits are simple and basic (swimwear), the accessories nothing to write home about (the straw hat looks like the Funny Face one, the portable radio and the cooler are cute but not on a par with the skis and boots and batons etc), so for me, it was a no from the get go. Poppy looks like a few of her previous incarnations, although for me it brought Sunshine Games Poppy to mind. Not fond of that one, not fond of this one either. Milo is probably in his worst ever iteration here, plus I already have two versions of him, so it it enough. Love the print of his swimwear though, it looks amazing (Alain for the rescue!). his coif looks too helmet-like, no? As for the stud…

Poppy Parker goes on a Mystery Date: part I - Formal Dance and Bowling Date!
A few days ago, W Club members got an invitation for a "slumber party event presentation:. People wandered why the slumber party theme, but many correctly guessed that it was related to Poppy. And since the much talked about pet project of David Buttry, Poppy Parker designer extraordinaire was mentioned in some of the latest online presentations, one could easily connect the dots. Sure enough, when Carol, Alain and David, in their PJs (Alain in a hooded top reminding us of Star Wars, since he was in front of his gorgeous related display) with their pillows, appeared and begun explaining the new collection, it was an Integrity Toys collaboration with Hasbro: Poppy Parker Loves Mystery Date.
Inspired by the classic board game from 1965 where players are preparing to go on a Mystery Date, the Poppy Parker® Loves Mystery Date series includes four two-doll gift sets based on the dates from the vintage board game: Skiing, Bowling, Beach and Formal Dance dates. But, this series comes with a twist: Get one of the special edition sets and Poppy Parker might be accompanied by an elusive "Mystery Date" instead of her expected beau. When you open the door to find out which date is waiting. it could be the date Poppy expects, or "The Stud" (the dud of the original game). A special "mystery" figure is inserted at random throughout these sets. Alain has done an incredible job with the packaging again, combining the original board game illustrations with the Poppy Parker box - there is even the door hiding the guy!
The concept follows that of the game, where four girls were collecting their outfit's pieces and, when it was complete, could open the white door to find out their date. It could be any of four different "appropriate" guys or the "dud", a guy dressed. plainly. How it translates to dolly world? Whether you opt for the Formal Dance, Bowling, Ski, or Beach date gift sets, you have a 1 in 16 chance that Poppy's date isn't the beau from the set, but instead "The Stud", an otherwise handsome, scrappy guy dressed as if going to fix his motorbike. There are only 500 of this guy produced over all the sets; this means that 125 are inserted at random in each group of 2000 sets per date and may replace Poppy's intended date without warning. The sets are going to be available through W Club-only "right-to-buy" lotteries. Two sets lotteries will be done now and the next two sets lotteries will be done after the first ones are completed.

I have no recollection of the board game from when I was I kid, even though we got most of the popular board games from the US translated into Greek. None of its versions ever graced the Greek shops, so there is no nostalgia element for me here, apart from the gorgeous illustrations of the original version, that remind me classic 50s - 60s illustrators like Al Parker, Coby Whitmore and Gerry Fancett among others. You can still get the original game, in a repackaged tin box version. What I don't get, and Integrity should have been more forthcoming on this, instead of a quick "this is a licensed product, hence not much freedom for modifications" comment, is why are all the dolls white people. Why not have black, asian, latin, native people making up the couples? One of the later versions of the game had such a variety in the illustrations, so Hasbro definitely has done that. It is 2022 people, there is simply no excuse. I find it hard to believe that a big company like Hasbro would make a fuss about skin tones in 2022. And if there was a glitch about this in the licensing process, maybe it is the wrong license to get, regardless of the sentimental/nostalgia factor involved. There could even be a gay couple (we have a 50s one in East 59th, why not a 60s one here?). I'd rather see that than pyjama party shenanigans from Integrity. They have a name to look up to.

The first gift set consists of a rendition of Baby It's You release: that was the debut of Chip in the storyline. This version of him looks a lot like a colour variation of the original, although with his exaggerated pompadour and pale skin tone, he would fit better as Chevalier Danceny in Dangerous Liaisons. Poppy is playing Barbie - and she nearly looks better, although the gown is rather plain. The set is rather lacking in accessories compared to others in this collection.
The Stud is rather fetching for a "dud", isn't he? I would not mind getting him instead of some of the guys offered. Especially considering I do not have this sculpt in my collection yet. If only he was wearing overalls instead of this ghastly pair of jeans. And s toolbox would have been a nice addition, making him more equal to the other guys in terms of accessories.

This is one of my two favourite sets - both for the dolls and their outfits and accessories. Poppy is adorable in her bowling attire, Cabot as well and the bags with the bowling balls are simply gorgeous. Their shoes are fantastic and the soda bottles are the cherry on top. They look amazing together. Poppy reminds me a bit of Co-ed Cutie Poppy. David said that all Poppy dolls of this collection have the Bergdorf screening but with the vintage eyebrows.

I do not know if these prices are with the special discount for W Club members that we will be getting for many dolls this year instead of the coupon or these are regular prices (my money is on the discount and that the regular price will be $175). They also mentioned the effort to have lower shipping costs from USPS and that they get lower prices from them as a company - which is not true, as I had people ship me dolls from the US and pay the same price as Integrity charges. Most of us had predicted that the NU Face upgrade doll this year would be Eden as a complimentary doll to her NU Classic twin, Lilith, and here she is. Just like the Mademoiselle Eden and Lilith dolls. She has a very different style to that of her sister: she is the downtown to Lilith's uptown girl. A common thread would be the lovely colours of all the different elements of the outfit and the same shape glasses. The only way to make this one better would have been to have her in an afro - the middle part is beginning to look tired already. The top reminds me a lot of the convention Vanessa one and it is probably this one by Alexander McQueen. The bag and shoes are Versace (La Medusa small handbag and La Medusa Charm mules). Put her in the cart I say.

I must say that if there was another character instead of Agnes (and of course not Elyse or Eugenia yet again) I would have been a bit happier. Agnes is popular and is a favourite of mine, but there is no shortage of her ever, while some other ladies have been missing in action (Kyori, where art thou?). The doll is very beautiful and reads like a lighter version of Miami Agnes, but the dress frankly looks like a mess to me. When you do a feather and crystals covered piece of clothing in this scale, making it very tailored with cut outs and stuff is overkill. Since it was 60s inspired as Jessy informed us on the video, the dress could have been an A-line shift that would have quite a stronger impact with the feathers and the embroidery. The hair style is so Poppy Parker (The Happening for example). And one last thing: why are US people pronouncing Weiss like whiss instead of the proper (German) way which is vaiss?

I think this is the first Poppy that makes evident the fact that she is Tullabelle's grandmother - I can so imagine the latter wearing this outfit. The 70s vibe is strong with this one. They mentioned on the presentation that, while the Palm Springs collection is still forthcoming, there will be Poppy dolls that are not part of it - this is one of them. Of course the hime haircut, while originating in the Heian period Imperial court of Japan, was popular during the 70s in Japan because of a pop idol adopting it. Cher also had it in the early 70s (at least five photos here and a gorgeous one here), while W Club event Ayumi had it in 2020. Gorgeous doll and outfit. David posted some photos on his instagram account with inspiration for her.

Dolly Days are back again - and the fourth W Club doll for 2021 is revealed!
Due to the convention being held late in 2021, the unofficial Dolly Days tradition was moved to January 2022., to the joy of all W Club members. The first day gave us members the opportunity to: a. order replacement bodies from a variety of types and skin tones offered (unfortunately FR bodies had only Hungarian ver. 5.0 and sun-kissed ver. 6.0, so I got one of each that I needed and there were no FR white available NU Face ones that I needed). and b. pre-order a small variety of FR and NU Face bodies (here we could pre-order FR white ones for Fashion Royalty but not for NU Face - why was that?). All lines were pretty much represented, with The Industry, East 59th and Meteor having the most variety. There was a small selection of FR Homme ones (no dark A tone one unfortunately) and Monarch ones too.

She is a beauty! The doll has lovely colouring - the earthy tones make her quite special. I must say I am happy she does not have pink lipstick, that would have been a deal breaker for me. The hairstyle is more Ariana Grande than Palm Springs and here I wonder why we do not get any of the more elaborate, blown -up, overly decorated hairstyles we saw in the late sixties - the addition of a hairpiece would have been awesome as well. We have seen plenty of ponytails, it is time to move on. The sequinned top and pants are dazzling and match perfectly with the fur coat, which is a colour variation of the one we saw in the convention style lab - I do not mind! Love the accessories too, especially the earrings - and we get two pairs of shoes and both high-heels and articulated ankle feet!

Integrity Toys Obsession Convention 2021, Day 2: Poppy Parker Style Lab
The morning of the second (and final) convention day was reserved for Poppy Parker - the Style Lab collection centred on her was unveiled, as well as the Poppy Parker Event dolls (these two are on the next post). David Buttry single-handedly reversed the negative feelings from the previous evening and delivered a highly praised collection, both for dolls and outfits presented. Each doll, each outfit, and each accessory pack in the Style lab collection was sold separately. The theme for this collection was an obsession with Parisian fashion, while David placed the time period for it in the early 70s, which was also reflected in the packaging, reminiscent of 70s YSL make up and perfume boxes. Apart from Poppy, Ginger was the only other character that made an appearance. Main convention package holders are able to pick from an assortment of five totally glam dolls, five fabulously curated looks, and two accessory packs. While the dolls pictured are dressed, Style Lab dolls and outfits were sold separately. I will be presenting each doll along with the corresponding outfit to avoid photo repeats.

This is again a lovely Poppy, but the almost identical hairstyles are a bit boring - especially considering the variety of them used in the previous PP Style Lab in 2019. I know that long straight hair were the rage in the early 70s but it was definitely not the only style that was popular, especially in fashion. But I guess there's always the cost factor. From the real life photos of this doll I have seen, the skintone looks quite a bit lighter in them than what we see in the promos.

I love this look, with the leopard cape (that reminds me the Poppy in Milan one) over the turtleneck, jeans and boots plus the cap - so very seventies! I could not find the exact same outfit but there were many variations of this one during that era. YSL definitely used the print and fur a lot ( he did a trench-coat in 1969) and his muse and friend Mme Deneuve favoured it a lot.
